damper-tube sealant

when replacing the two thin gaskets on the damper-tube assembly is it required to use a gasket sealant or seal=all oris it used just to fixture during re-assembly.Thanks chuck

I didn't use any sealant on mine, and had no leaks. The main thing to look for is the protrusion of the dampener stud thru the bottom of the slider, the flat cannot extend past the surface of the slider, or the nut won't tighten up and compress the paper washers. Mike

thanks, Panacea, I hoped that DRY was the way to go but it seemed like some kind of sealant i was claening off thelower damper. I picked up some pressure resistant sealant just in=case. Thanks Chuck

If the flat on the stud does extend out too far, a couple of extra paper washers may be all you need to allow the nut to squeeze the joint securely. I'm sure many have been assembled with sealant to solve this type of "leak"...Mike
