Hydraglide Steering Damper Question

#1

Post by kehughes »

What is the difference between part #s 46718-48 and 47720-48? Is one thicker than the other? I have two of these washer type pieces and the only difference I can see is that one is thicker than the other. Both of my parts have the little hole in them. I was wondering if I had two of the same part with one of them worn more than the other or if the thickness is the difference. Thanks for any help.

The lower one #46720-48 should have a pin in it.

And that plate with the pin serves multiple functions. The pin passes through any of the three holes in the top tree to lock the lower cone nut which maintains the steering head bearing adjustment, and it also locks the top nut to prevent loosening and provides a friction surface for the damper.

neither of mine have the pin. I thought the pin was a seperate part with its own part #. I just figured I'd have to order a pin. Am I incorrect?

Don't confuse it with the pin in the frame, that is a whole other deal. The plate should have a hole in it with a short pin peened in place. It is part of the assembly and isn't listed as a separate part.

Ahhh!!! I just realized that the pin shown in the spare parts manual is the anchor plate pin!! Yeah, That's already mounted on the frame. Maybe I should have read the description. What a dummy..!! You would think that pin would be listed on the FRAME page...!??

You guys answered my question though. I need that lower 47720-48. Thanks for the help
