Duo Glide Shocks Revisited with a solution this time

#1

Post by 63 Duo »

Today is a great day! After years of searching for NOS Shock cartridges for my 63 and searching for a solution, I finally have good replacements.
I have given some time ago my second pair of shocks to a very well known local racing automotive suspension specialist and ha had promised a solution.
Today i go them back . He had operated on my aged leaking and busted shock cartridges, measured and inspected them and all he used actually was the topcaps and eyelets. He found a automotive pair of shock tubes of correct outside diameter and of same bottom eyelet , and constructed inside a new shock cartridge. He measured the springs rating and what was left of the old shock's damping so he roughly made a suitable shock but this can be altered and tuned if desired because
these shocks allow for opening and servicing them.
The shock tubes come from a General Motors (probably European) vehicle and off course i cannot give a description of all the work done cause i did not do it myself.
Here they are:

Thats pretty cool 63 Duo I wonder what GM car had chrome plated shocks? I don't know what kind of shape my shocks are in on my 63 I haven't had it on the road yet.

Well i believe that he used the GM outer and constructed the inner dampers to suit . the shocks are not chromed they are bead blasted (or something ) and zink plated.
I am not sure about the GM part number but i can write down the number codes that are pressed on the shock body.
