Mallory Automatic Advance Distributor

I had a new Mallory auto advance distributor installed and it will not fire. The “mechanic” I had install it cannot figure it out and says that it won’t start but when every thing is turned off, it will back fire. He thinks its a module issue or the fact that its an auto advance instead of a manual. I’m not sure how any of this is happening but I’m picking up my bike from this guy in worse shape than when I brought it in! Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on initial settings or ever have a problem like this? Thanks for any input.

I installed the Mallory Unilite #556 years ago, pretty straight-forward job. Here are the instruction sheets for the install, just use either the #A556 or the fancier #A557 w/ rev limiter.
