proper plug gap

#1

Post by Hauula Pan »

Can anyone tell me if I'm using the proper gap settings for my plugs and points? I have the points set at .022 and the plugs at .025 I'm running 6 volt system with single point mechanical advance timer. Also the bike is a 1952 FL and I have the timing set to the FL position on the flywheel which is a little further back in the hole than the FLH position. Bike starts & runs, (most of the time anyway) but I keep hearing different things like "oh the points should only be at .016 - .018 and plug gaps I get told everything from .022 to one guy that said .035" I'm pretty sure my settings of points @ .022 and plugs @ .025 is correct but want to make sure. I could only fine a ref. for the points in the manual and it does say .022 for the points but it doesn't mention the plug gap at all.

same thing for a 12 volt with single points and wasted spark coils. Not sure about the dual point systems.
