51 Distributor Rotation

How many degrees should the distributor rotate via the timing cable?
Not sure mine rotates enough but have nothing to compare it to.

Not sure about degrees, but mine moves 9/16th inch measured at adjusting nut.

Thanks for the info. I get about 3/4 in the middle of the shaft so I must be in the ballpark.
It moves smoothly so I think I am OK

1/2" to 3/4" travel on the timer control wire is good, you're in the ballpark. The amount of rotation you get at the timer will be determined by the spiral mechanism in the twist grip and how much bare wire you have extending from the cable sleeve where it is anchored by the clamp on the relay mount.

The really important thing is that when the grip is rotated fully towards you and the wire is pulled all the way into the sleeve rotating the timer as far as it will go counter-clockwise (post on the timer going towards the center line of the bike) the timing is at full advance and set to the timing mark on the flywheel.
