Timing dual point

#1

Post by haggis »

Ok then..........
how would you go about timing a dual point breaker on a pan Flywheel that only has the one timing mark? That will work for the front , but how do i time the rear?
Got my beer , butts and goggles at the ready!
Thanks, Haggis.

You must either degree the flywheel and paint another timing mark ("EASIEST' choice), or attempt to figure where it is 'so many' degrees before top center by inserting something through the spark plug hole. Since that is not straight up-and-down,...It is easier to degree-wheel it.
Once you have painted a dot of urethane paint in the right spot,, you can even use a strobe on it!
A degree wheel is just a piece of cardboard with a full circle protractor glued to it so you can stick it upon your sprocket shaft. If my scanner worked, I'd post it to you.
If lotsa boardpeople asked, I'd whip it into a j-peg somehow.

Hi Cotten,
Great idea about the timing wheel, your one hell of a good guy to have for answers.!!!
Question,.....would the timing wheel have to be the same diameter as the flywheel, or at least close to it. to transfer the true degree mark to the flywheel?
thanks for the input, Haggis
