Ignition problems
Hello, I'm new here.
My 57 PAN (6V) has a Quickstart 2000.
The coil measured 1 ohm. Now I think the current is too high for the Quickstart 2000
My Quickstart 2000 is broken after 5000 km.
Should I install a 2 ohm coil ?

its a drop in for the OEM timer, there were a couple guys selling them at Davenport this year and he also runs a continuous ad in the AMCA magazine. From what I've heard they are supposed to be pretty good but, like any other "black box", its a bunch of unknown solid state electronics potted in plastic. When they go bad there is no way to diagnose them, or repair them, or (this is the worst part) do a quick fix on the road when it leaves you stranded 100 miles from home.

thanks that answers the question. i like stuff that doesn't alter the original parts.
i suppose you could keep a set of points and a condensor plus a 2 ohm resistor in your tool kit if it failed on the road.

I used to have problems with aftermarket points&condensors. I have had no failures with the Tune-up kits I get from HD.
$20 for two 3-4 plugs,points and condensor.

I believe with the Quickstart , you can carry you org. points and cond. to swap back if you have problems on the road (you do carry extra points cond.& plugs ,right )
Ya know ,I don't want to jinx my self ,but I've been running a Mallory for years (about four )and have never had to touch the timing or adj. any thing and yes mine starts first kick any time , cold or warm .
I ran a 5 ohm point type coil for a couple of years before I got a three ohm for electronic type ing., ran fine ,but it does run a little better with the right ohm coil , I think, really hard to tell .

Now it's is by a shop ( http://www.Ironpit.nl) we placed a primary belt. When we would start the PAN he don't start.
Measured battery,coil and quickstart2000, result quickstart2000 is broken.

The Quickstart is a good drop in timer!---SET & FORGET!--A 4-5ohm coil will work but will eventually damage the sensor!/ That is why they recomend a 3ohm coil!-2-Reasons!--The performance will be better due to a higher voltage burst out of the coil!-(thats where the DYNO readouts I saw gave a 4HP increase at 5500RPM & Tourque was a smidge higher at lowRPM!. But nothing to write home about about!--( This test was on a stock 74 pan with open-pipes & S&S-E carb.)-Pipe size was 13/4 x 36 inch with a modified 2-inch baffle. The 3ohm coil gave the stock 12V coil more output due to a longer saturation/or build-up of voltage before its sent to the plugs!--(you can get a better understanding from the website).-The Q-Start--Really shines with a duel-plug head set-up!, using Dyna coils.--- They work really well on stock motors also!--I have had good reports on the 4 I installed, & are still 1-kick hot or cold!,-(installed on 3-pans & 1flatside-shovel--I put 3ohm Dyna coils on all!)----RICHIE--PS---Everyone still carries a set of points & cond. in the bags!--Just incase!--A roadside change takes 15min. & Gone!---Hope this helps & answers a few questions!---GOOD-LUCK & Wheels-UP!

Tryed the e-beyond 2000, thought it was great, then it started acting up.
1 cylinder was dropping out.
I switched back to points.
I feel better now on the road.
If the ebeyond 2000 failed completely your in for a time of it.
If points or condenser fail not a big deal.
