Which plug wire for inductive timing

#1

Post by ArizonaMike »

Hi,

I haven't had to time a bike for years, but since I now have a '62 with a Mallory Unilite ignition distributor, I now need to know which plug wire, to clamp the inductive timing light's wire on to. Or doesn't it matter?
Thanks in advance for the answer.

The Mallory is a dual fire ignition, meaning every time it fires, it fires both plugs, same as stock single points do. So it doesn't matter which plug wire you clamp on to with the timing light.
The flywheel is marked for the front cylinder. If the bike fired the plugs independently ("single-fire"), you would need to use the front plug wire.
