Plug wire routing
Anyone have a good clear picture of wire route on an early pan, I'm looking at the left view in the 50 riders handbook , looks like the front cable wraps over the frame rail .. Any pics would be great
Thanks, Adam

Re: Plug wire routing
Plenty of excellent pics in the K-base, one to check out is 51 pan wire routing, has a whole series. Sorry don't know how to make a link, but its right near the top of the listing of topics under electrical system.

Re: Plug wire routing
Adam,
I went through this myself a while back. From what I was able to find out, the wire stays completely on the left side of the frame. It stays to the left of the motor mount and is held in place by a clip that fits between the choke lever stud and the motor mount. That's what I ended up going with, and the wire lays in there real nice. Sorry, but no pics.

Re: Plug wire routing
I've seen them with the front cyl wire going under the frame from the rear of coil , then looping over, then under tank , the cloth covered wires seem to stress and crack with that arrangement , seems " un natural" to me ?

Re: Plug wire routing
adam,
interesting topic. on my wla both wires exit the coil and wrap over the frame on the right side.
not related to your situation, but does show the factory had no problem wrapping spark plug wires around the frame.

Re: Plug wire routing
It's just so hard to tell in my factory photos, my 50 riders handbook is the best view I have, most shots are of right side, it almost seems it varies from year to year, just seems that I wouldn't do it that way. It's almost like the floorboard hinge bolts direction... Depends on who installed them. Please post pics so we get some different ideas, thanks everyone

Re: Plug wire routing
Are original factory pics good enough? Or are you part of the "factory workers were human and did what they liked" crowd.

A picture is worth a thousand words.
Original? No doubt.
But, you have to admit that looks pretty ugly!

Re: Plug wire routing
Sorry , not much free styling going on in a restoration , but I think that's what makes the good ones stand out, I do it for my own head I guess

Don't know why it's that way but that's the way mine is installed.
