Panhead Distributor

#1

Post by indianut »

Has anyone seen an Indian distributor modified to run in a Pan. This is something i have been thinking about for some time and I am about to make it happen on my Pan. Just because I want to! Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

Al Knapp ran one on his WR. The biggest issue is the difference in the V-angle. 45 degrees versus 42.

Indianut!

I thought the aftermarket "Poole" distributor was discussed on this forum, but I can't find it with the search function.

Maybe I got the name wrong.

If you intend to start grinding points cams, I'll let you convert an Wisconsin Autolite distributor for my Scout project.

Cool this is what I want to do with a mix of Indian and HD parts. No, Cotten, I am not going to grind the lobe, I am going to adapt a HD timer shaft and lobe to the Indian dist. I figure I will make a piece to hold the Indian Hammerhead type rotor onto the top of the HD lobe and somehow use the top half of the distributor on the bottom half of the timer. I just want to do it because I think it will be a cool setup. By the way, the Pan is a pretty much stock 1961 that I have had for quite some time.

The best setup I have ever experienced was a dual point timer with the second set of points on an adjustable plate so that the rear cylinder could be correctly timed without having to do it by gap adjustment. Then two coils for a true and correctly timed single fire arrangement. Better than a distributor in operation too.

Well poop.

I may never get this Scout together.

A silver-solder cut'n'splice to lengthen a Servi auto-advance shaft to BigTwin worked for me, years ago.
But my Wisconsin Autolite's advance needs to spin the wrong way.

I may never get this Scout together.

'Cracked heels'?

Gosh Robbie, I'm lucky I got away with only 'Harley Knee'.

PS: I am reminded of my uncle who wanted to re-invent hand grips to prevent "Biker's Palsy".
He held the patents for bent hammers, baseball bats, tennis rackets, etc.
