Bad Circuit Breaker?

I'm a longtime lurker....love this site, has helped me out a great deal over the last few months.

I just completed the fix up on my 62. When I got the bike it had a mag, I pulled it (along with a lot of other stuff) for a Tawianese auto advance circuit breaker.

The initial start-up went well. After that? nothing. After much aggravation, I finally decided to re-check the timing. Found that it jumped time, or I was drunk. Retimed it. Happened again.

I noticed that the breaker cam clamping bolt came loose. I red loctited it down waited for an hour, and tried again -it jumped time a third time and unbelieveably the clamping bolt came loose!

I am freaking out. What's going on here? I have no clue.

I pulled the cam cover and pulled the distributor up to make sure the gear pin wasn't sheared. Seems fine and the gear makes good engagement.

The only thing it could be is the clamping bolt that holds down the point cam. For some reason it backs out of the shaft enough to let the cam turn 180? Seems as though this bolt should be left hand thread instead of right hand. Anyone using a V-twin auto adv. that has any ideas?

It'll be a bummer to have to pull the front head off again.

Found the problem. Brand new distributor. Someone forgot to tap a roll pin in all the way. The advance plate is supposed to be pinned to the distributor shaft. The plate spun, causing it to skip time. Yeah well... I sacrificed a #37 drill bit (.104) to fix it.

Put about 20 breakin miles on tonight. 1 or 2 kicks. I'm happy.
