True Dual Independant Crossover Pipe - How to Attach

#1

Post by steve_wood »

Picked up a complete true dual system. Can't figure out where to attach the read header bracket. I've shown in the photo where the bracket was when I got it. But in that position it doesn't seem to match up with a logical anchor point.

Anybody got pictures of one of these things installed?

Perfect. Actually I was afraid that might be the answer. Really don't like the idea of loosening that cylinder nut to lock down the header....

True duals and the buddy seat.
There are 2 types of buddy seat auxillary spring setups. One for single exhaust and one for dual.
The dual exhaust buddy seat spring assembly is extended on the left side to clear the exhaust pipe when a second person is riding on the seat. Take a look at the aux spring on the left side when 2 persons are on the seat. Is it rubbing against the pipe? Then you have the wrong spring setup. Go solo before you wear a hole in your pipe.

Good Point. The pipe actually has a wear mark in a spot that looks like it could be from the spring.

The bracket on the pipe in the photo is different than the bracket as seen in the photo of the motorcycle. It appears to be shorter, and is definitely lacking the bend. I see no way that it will attach via the cylinder base nut as it is. Is it possible that the bracket attaches by means of the front left oil tank mount bolt?

No problemo. Now I just need to raise the stud a bit when I install my re-bored OEM cylinders.

Hi Steve: On my 54 set up, I had to fit the clamp on the right side rear cylinder base stud. The reason being my original OEM clamp was scaf cut for the cylinder base area and would not clamp to the left side cylinder base stud unless I mofified it. See attachement but I had no choice and there is no info from the factory of the time on how it should installed but this worked best for me....Joe

The clamp for true duals should attach to right rear cylinder stud, as partshunt indicates. The extended buddy seat spring yoke and spacer is needed for hardtails, not required for DuoGlides, since the buddy spring setup is up higher. The clamp is different for the true duals, the later clamp for dual exhaust (not independant pipes) is different with a bend. Ed.

Ed: (paned2) Thanks for submitiing your set up. It is a carbon copy of my pic above yours. I think with the clamp right under the port makes a better installation since the rear pipe is less likely to blow itself downward against the clamp directly under it. Sounds like I got something right for a change LOL...Joe
