Damn! that was a fight all weekend to get an aftermarket 2-1 four piece pipe set to fit. Had to weld an extra inch to the front pipe and butcher an old set to add 3/4" to the front of the squish pipe and still have not got the 20" cocktail/tulip muffler fitted.
So the excitement is killing me, will I find the muffler runs better with baffle or just as straight through, or will it be a case of suck it and see?

What brand were the repop mufflers? It would good to know what to avoid (or in fact, to know if I haven't already made the same mistake.

the muffler isn't the problem, that's a very good quality item supplied by Feked (can I do that?, no affiliation) the problem was/is the repo header set which was unbranded and bought off fleabay.

At the moment the issue is the muffler running too tight to the frame which i'm not sure i can change without putting stress / load on other parts or just fit plain cockeyed.

An interesting thing I discovered while doing an inter-web search is that there is a retail seller using the handle "Taiwan Tedd",

but in small print he has the disclaimer that he is not "V-Twin Manfucturing" who is strictly a distributor, no retail sales.

I spent a couple of days fitting a Superior 2-1 set with slinky's just a couple of years ago. As I recall I trimmed the rear header and 2-1 pipe only. The squish mount bracket was moved on the frame to accomodate the new squish bolt hole orientation. I fabbed from scratch the front pipe mount to suit the run of the pipe. It took quite a bit of head-scratching and jigsaw puzzling but it worked. The only thing I had to rework was the 2-1 pipe to stop it migrating rearward which I pinned at the muffler front clamp.

I forgot to mention, the oil return pipe now clashed with the header. The bike came with a crossover rear exhaust pipe so the new system created this unexpected issue. How I solved this and other exhaust fitting details is documented on my exhaust blog page should it be of interest.

hey, thanks for the link Excalibur, you executed a far more tidy job than me.

I'll post pics of the finished fit but i'm not happy as the junction between the Y pipe and muffler is not straight and no more wriggle room available. Looks like I will go for straight muffler with no angle.

So the best that can be done with the aftermarket header pipes, squish an Y. Think I'll go for a Hz muffler or expense of someone else's header pipe set.
Note the fugly airequip oil lines will also go and have 3.5 gallon fatbobs and a nice conservative all black frame and tank, + junk electric start an get larger capacity oil tank all on the wish list. Motor Cycles = funnels for money 8)
