ADAM!---I just installed a set on a friends scoot. They were the ones that look like flexpipe! He got them from JP. They are 1/8 inch bigger in dia. & bolted on pretty good. IF your exhaust is 1-3/4 you should have no trouble!---there not oem but they do the job.----RICHIE 8)

Just make sure you install them with the seams facing down so that water or oil will not flow into the cracks. Hold them upright, look at the seams, flip them upside down and look again. You'll see what i mean. If you install them with the seams facing up, and then, for example, you drip some oil when changing your filter, they'll smoke.

ADAM!---Those are the exact ones I fit on to a Bros bike!---What I did so it wont slide down,--I put a setscrew out of site!--I drilled a 1/16 hole thru the clamp & pipe & put an ALLEN setscrew in with red-loctite! & tightened it up good!--Just be careful when tightening-up,--so you dont crack the exhaust spigot!.---HELD real good for 2+yrs. now!--& we ride daily!---Been thinking for a set for mine! :? ---RICHIE 8)

Richie, I'm just not loving them, The spirals should be smaller it seems...these were the V twin "replica" ones, I guess that means the length is right, thats about it. I dont know the OD on stock ones, but I'm sure its smaller....I'm done with Tedds. I'm not looking to make this thing a 100 point bike, I dont care about any of that , I do it for the love of these old bikes, and there original design. Nothing fits or works like the original I guess....I was hoping there were some better examples of reproduction covers out there. Richie Thanks for the tips as always, Adam

The quality of modern reproductions has to do with the poor quality of the basic flex pipe they are made of. H-D did not make the flex for their covers. As with many things it was a commonly available item that they just had plated and sold. In the '70s you could still buy flex from any auto parts store and it was the right profile, with a very flat configuration. I bought and had plated plenty of it. The material was domestically made. All that aftermarket guys are doing is buying available flex and plating it. Same as before, however the flex itself is now an offshore product that has a different profile. In its normal application (car and truck exhausts) the profile doesn't matter. But when plated and sold as repop covers they look crappy. The dimensions are also slightly off likely due to the metric programming of the machines making it!

That makes sense Robbie... I cant understand why someone doesnt really make a run at producing some of the common parts that we all use on our restorations , and getting them to spec in every way, I know I would pay for a good , acurate reproduction, instead of settling for whats availible. I know I am not alone on this, Adam

Hog54. To me that looks more like the original flex shield. I am with 1951 adam. The V-Twin reps just don't look right. I had thought about getting some of those. Glad I didn't. Thanks.

Thanks for that hog 54, something to look into for sure! I Think the main problem with V twin is the way the parts are represented , When they arrive its always a bit of a let down. Most all of what I get or have is NOS or OE stuff, next time I'll wait till I get the right stuff. Adam

You could try here

http://www.carlscyclesupply.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They've restored a few bikes with those on.
