carb for 1950

#1

Post by Moose »

found out that I need a m74 for my stock 50 pan I'm rebuilding. I put this in the parts for sale but more people are here than over there. So what i have is either a M74b or a m36 I'll swap either for a m74. both the 74 and the 36 came off of running bikes

thanks for looking

Glenn!

Please be aware as you shop for an M74 that the HS needle was unique, as shown here on the right:
Good luck!

Glenn!

Your M74B's HS needle has a simple, one-angle point.

The M74 (and the M53 next to it) has a stepped point.

Glenn!

When 'shopping',
to be certain that somebody didn't remove the "B" from a common carb, please note the casting conformity differences:
The M74 is the top example.

Good luck!

now i have great info. the only thing better than that would for you to send me the 1950 carb because I would not want you to have to store it any longer so I'm willing to take it off your hands for a trade :)

thanks again cotton

Glenn!

I'm not a wheeler-dealer. But Liberty does make a few marriages, and even take a consignment or two.

Liberty 's flagship shouldn't have one on it:
fossil5.jpg
But it performs extraordinarily, and I need it for reference, for such things as the previous pic.

The body casting in the other pic is a spare reference on the shelf, ....
uh,.. .. .
Got any Scheblers?

At any rate,
if you spy something on ebay please feel free to email me direct at liberty@npoint.net with a link (I'm not ebay registered), and I would be happy to give you a critique of what I see.

Good luck!

Indexing the holes would be a fun study, but probably pointless, especially on the M74 series.
For good luck only, I orient them to the vent, which for an M74 series is on the left side of the body, as you look at it from its mouth.

Glenn!

The vent for an M35 is on the right side;
Indexing may possibly be more significant with its earlier main nozzle, as the later M74series nozzle was more omni-directional where air would enter the nozzle "well" (body bore).

I really don't know how it works.

Cotten,
Can we see the left side of that flagship? In the photo I can see some interesting things like the exhaust, footboards, sidecar mount bar?, and lack of chrome. Very well done, just my style!
