how many inch or foot pounds should a linkert be tightened to to avoid distorting the flanges of the carb and intake manifold and still get a good seal?

No real need to torque those bolts. Just snug them up real good with a proper fitting screw driver and them give them just another small nudge for good luck.

Dear Arnulfo,
Fifteen foot pounds works good but do it again after it gets hot a few times. Gaskets these days are spongey.
