Symptoms of loose venturi in Linkert

#1

Post by pan50head »

If the venturi is not tight in the bore of an M74B, how does it affect the operation of the bike? Sputtering, lean mixture, ??? Thank you for your comments.

Pan50head!

Every carb is is different (unless "blue-printed"),
but generally a lot of daylight around the venturi makes for very wide off-idle "flat spot", and a gasp upon acceleration that made thousands think they needed an accelerator pump.
(The other tens of thousands just believed what they heard from those.)

Our M74 series carbs are not as sensitive to this problem as smaller Model Ms.
Many, many out there are running "fine" with some daylight.
After all, its barely got a venturi.

Hey Tom. What do you think of those bad bays over on the Shovel forum? A lot of tatoos, and pretty soon most of them will be old enough to vote. That's scary. They mark their territory pretty strong. But I have to admit, that there are some good ones on there too. There just seems to be something about our darn Shovelhead HD's that brings out the hairy forehead dudes. Oh well........ That Linkert you did for me is still performing well. Thanks. Mike

Mike!

I only went there seeking knowledge of DC models, honest.
But I guess I went on to violate the non-intervention with primitive societies priority.

It don't bother me, I hope it doesn't bother you!

Back to topic,
the mateing nozzle spigot, and its hole into the venturi is an interface as critical as the fit of the venturi into its bore.

I think anyway.
Anybody got a few thousand hours of dyno time to spare?
(Newfangled contraptions can grow on you.)
