move south, you won't need the lap robermcrh wrote: any ideas?
sorry, the devil made me say that
Growing up in Milwaukee in the 50s & 60s I remember seeing the H-D factory test riders riding all winter long, they had a little outrigger like a sidecar without a tub that they used when there was snow on the roads, but I don't remember seeing any of them equiped with the accessory lap robe. They probably had 'em but I sure can't remember seeing any.
Good luck, let us know if you find one and send pictures!

I grew up on the west coast. In Vancouver B C Canada during the 50's. Sidecars were common and police, bridge guys, RCMP, and commercial riders used lap robes. Coupled with this history and my riding pal rrhawg using one for our participation in the Great Indian versus Harley War last year in and around Yosemite ,I want one. The canvas ones pack smaller.

Military surplus lap robes show up regularly on eBay. They are a rubberized canvas much like later Naugahyde. They are universal so a 45 one fits a Big Twin!

The Harley test riders were MEN, they didn't need any sissy accessories!

Someone please post a photo.

Re: lap robe for a 65
I have a canvas one that was made by langlitz leathers in Portland, Or. I also have a Harley one that is as RUBONE states, but it is much heavier and takes up more room to pack. As rmcrh states, I used the canvas one last year on the ride to and from Yosemite. I was able to ride thru rain, snow, hail and slush with just a pair of blue jeans on and of course my coat I was quite comfortable and dry. I am past the stage in life where I care what someone else thinks about my manhood and am more interested in comfort. I have put in my time riding in all kinds of weather without one and if you really ride without reguard to what the sky is throwing at you, you will soon learn that there are a lot of different ways to deal with it. I also don't believe that the Harley test riders were any more qualified the be called a man that either Robb or I. The canvas lap robe takes up little room as it rolls up quite nicely and is quick and easy to attach. My leather pants take up more room that it does.
I will try to post some pictures tonight.

How and where does it snap on? Notice any increase in engine operating temperature? The Lap Apron looks very functional!

Re: lap robe for a 65
It took me awhile to figure out how to resize the pictures.
The lap robes attach at the front of the floorboard. I just use a zip tie to attach it there. Then it tucks in under the front of the seat and you just fold it back over your lap and tuck it under your coat. There were some clips that would take the place of the front floorboard hinge for them to snap on and off.
The heavier one on the floor is a Harley item but it takes up a lot more room to pack. I took a picture of it rolled up but you could roll it tighter then I did. They are a great addition to your saddlebag and make riding a lot more comfortable in bad weather.
