Panhead Royalite Bubble Bags

#1

Post by scooter74 »

Hello to all!
I have a set of old Panhead Royalite bubble bag style hard bags. I've done some research on these and from what I can see, they were all made out of some composite fiberglass/plastic-like material. The set I have are very old and crusty, BUT, they are made out of steel. Both the bottoms and lids are steel. These are the exact same in shape and appearance as any of the other Royalite ones that I have seen.

My question: Has anyone seen any of these steel bags, or have any knowledge of them? Thanks in advance for any and all insight on this!

There were some aftermarket steel bags made previous to the advent of Royalite bags, however I do not recall the maker. And they did not look too much like the Royalite bags, at least not if compared side by side. I'll look for a picture of them.

Maybe I shouldn't say that they are the exact shape as the Royalite ones, but very close. I will get some pics up of them asap.

Thanks for the replies!

Just a bit of useless knowledge. Royalite was made by US Rubber in a factory near me in RI. My brother just sold a late 1950's vintage speed boat made from Royalite.

Thanks for the input.

Scrap, I have heard of some older boats that had hulls made out of some type of rubber/plastic like material. So it makes sense that some were using Royalite. Thanks for the cool pedal car pic.

I attached a few pics of the bags. These things are steel, and i think they look pretty close to the Royalite ones in shape. Let me know if any of you has seen any of these or knows anything about them. Thanks!
