1965 inner primary gasket

#1

Post by fourthgear »

Anyone know what the part number for the gasket the fits between the motor case and inner primary of a 65-69 motor or where can I find some ? I know we talked about the cork one for tins and NOS has them ,but no mention of the aluminum primary one , its not cork . I 'm sure I can make one as a last resort, that would not be much of a problem.

I believe the manual suggests aluminum paint. Any quality sealer should do. (That doesn't mean sillycone.)
A gasket will affect your alignment to the transmission.

That's funny! I just happened to have read my manual the other day about that gasket and it indeed states "Aluminum paint". I remember it because it seemed odd at the time.

This one had what looks like a factory type gasket in there. I also believe it will change alignment . I had a 69 Shovel ,but can't remember if it had a gasket in there or not , probably not . I will check alignment when reassembling. It looks like the whole starter system is jury rigged so, when I get that far I will provide photos of it. It could be a later year outer primary . Chain looks OK and who knows what year clutch drum is in there . Thanks for the info .

Check out this gasket I took off there , looks like some kind of preformed gasket ( if its hand cut , its the best I've seen )and it looks like it belongs there or was made for it ( I couldn't salvage it all ) , Just strange , ya never know what turns up on one of these.
