Re: starter relay
What year are ya talkin here? 65 was the only pan with lectric start. 65 pans and early 66 shovels didn't have starter relays at all. I'm thinkin it was was a mid 66 intro....bosheff

Re: starter relay
Restless!
Most '65s and early '66s have had a relay retro-fitted, as is most sensible.
(Four years before America put a man on the moon, H-D had no clue what a relay was!)
If you can hear a click when you push the button, it is most likely not the relay.
A very common problem with solenoids is that the copper-coated contact washer and cap terminals have burned spots that prevent conductivity.
The cap can be carefully opened and the spots dressed. (Disconnect the battery ground first!)
The washer is on a removeable plunger, and it can even be reversed to use its backside.
Beware of Accel replacement kits, although I know of no alternatives at this time.

I see that I have received three PMs from you with nothing in them but a quote of my post above.
Please feel free to ask questions here on the forum, as others probably have better answers than I!

Re: starter relay
Just as a sidenote, battery boxes for 65 and early 66's don't have factory provisions for bolting on the starter relay. Not sure if the parts book makes this distinction or not....bosheff

As you probably know,
most '65 folks just hang it upon a kickercover stud, in nearly the same position.

Re: starter relay
One more thing to note is that the soleniod mounting tab hasnt bent slightly causing the unit not to set square with the inner primary , a very common oversite .
