Is there a readily available sealed beam for a '40ish headlight? 12 volt

I've a 7" H-4 halogen on my "Fossil" Knuck, but I burnished a repop bezel out to accept it, with an artifical hip. (The metal tangs had to be removed.)
A bowling ball makes a decent anvil.

The 'uvula' on a John Brown bezel fits nicely in the thumbhole.

yeah but the only problem is that the John Brown (actually Corcoran-Brown, the John Brown's were absorbed by Autolite about 1932) headlamps were only used on the Indians. Harley switched to Guide about the middle of the VL days in '34 or so. The '48-'50 Harley lghtweights had Corcoran-Browns but they were smaller diameter.

Cotten, can you modify a CycleRay bezel the same way?

another alternative would be to find an old Arrow 775 like the ones they used on early hot rods, like the '32 Duece Coupe that John Milner drove in American Grafetti.

The Arrows had a single post mount and will bolt to a standard Harley springer headlamp mount, and they take a common 7" sealed beam. nicely painted they would look very much like a stock CycleRay.

Yes Mike,

My Knuck, "The Fossil", is running a Cycle-Ray with a burnished prepop bezel and an H-4.

I only had a picture of the anvil with the Motolamp bezel on it. ( A pic of a bowling ball by itself wouldn't make much sense.)
And Indians had "Indian" on the 'uvula', whereas (I was told) some Hens and some H-Ds ran the plain 'uvula'.

Thanks Cotten, I thought that's what you meant and it really should be no trick to stuff a sealed beam in a CycleRay hull.

Here's a little trivea about the Brown Motolamps that Harley used on the VLs. Only the '31 & '32 had the "uvula" (or diamond, or Dracula widow's-peak thing) at the top of the bezel, and, as you have mentioned, they were plain. The '31 & '32 harley motolamps also had a flat lens. Harley used a Brown Motolamp for '33 & '34 but the bezel was plain, no diamond, and the lens was curved. Indian used the same lamp as the '33-'34 Harley from '33 to '40 but the Injun version had the inscription in the uvula at the top as you have said.

Repop Motolamps are available and are very nicely done, so authentic that all the parts are interchangeable with OEM originals. But, the last ones I remember seeing were bringing over $600, for a repop! If you have any original stuff you better hang on to it!

That one looks a lot better than the Arrow 775 that was on my '34 VL when I got it. Don't laugh, the bike was a mess but the headlight worked!
