Electric Frank's Regulator Question - Measuring Resistance
... I have a box full of regulators... most of them Frank's Electrics... ok it's a small box but still there's enough to wonder if any of them are good... I'm curious to know if it's possible to do an easy check without installing - say by checking the resistance or something like this? Would be so much simpler than installing, uninstalling, installing... If I'm on the right track, greatly appreciate any info about what measurements to look for & how to check. Thanks!

Re: Electric Frank's Regulator Question - Measuring Resistan
Lectric Frank regs have only 3 wires. Connect the 2 to the gen at their respective terminals and run the other to ignition switch or other 12v source. Fire it up and check across batt with volt meter. I'm sure there are other ways to check, but this should let ya know what's up. No need to mount/install....bosheff

Bosheff!
How about a ground for the regulator?

Ground the unit to the gen. Point is, it doesn't have to mounted to function properly. I stand corrected....bosheff

... appreciate the response - still curious to know if there's a measured resistance one can expect/anticipate... seems feasible there would be...
And yes I'm familiar with the mounting sans mounting method so no worries there... unless of course you've assumed leaving the existing unit wired in while testing the alternatives (I'm assuming your scenario removes the existing unit)... in which case I'd be very interested in knowing if you were thinking of hooking these babies up in them up in series or parallel?

Of course with an ohm-meter you can check each of the magnetic coils for continuity. There is no value otherwise. The actual output is based on an adjustable spring tension vs. the magnetic force.

Hogboy52!
I believe the "Electric Frank's" is a solid state regulator.
