Charge circuit question/Panhead

#1

Post by jbgoodner2 »

It seems that many years ago I read somewhere (Easyriders?) that all wiring on a 12 volt Harley can be 18 gauge except charging and ignition, which should be 16 gauge. Does anyone know if this is correct, or can charge circuit be done in 18 gauge, too? Thanks for any help ! God Bless !!

18ga can handle 10 amps with out a problem but like they said 16ga on the charging. A 12 volt generator could put out more than 18ga could handle. Hide a 20 amp fuse coming off the the battey positive and your set.

Thanks!! I guess my memory isn't completely gone ! Next dumb question, which post on the ignition switch do you connect the positive wire from the v. regulator to? mine is directly to the positive battery terminal, and I'm pretty sure it should go to the switch? thanks again!!! God Bless !!!!

Go to the Knowledge Base and then... Documentation. List several wiring diagrams. If your is a bit of a hybrid system, it can change...6 pole/or a 3 pole FX type switch. Give us an idea of what you are using/starting with.
