Stroker Panheads
Not wanting to sound condesending, for the life of me I can't figure out why anyone would want to stroke a pan motor. These engines were never designed to be high performance, high RPM, go fast asphalt eaters. The heads don't flow worth a damn compared to shovels, evos, and twin cams. Fuel must flow through the intake and basically bounce off the back wall, do a ninety degree left and right turn, and head for the intake valve. To say the least, not very efficient. A shovel on the other hand has an approximate 40 degree angle to the intake valve which is much more efficient. Pre 55 motors don't have Timken bearings, and use a much smaller sprocket shaft compared to later models, making them less than desirable for handling the added torque and abuse that comes with a healthy stroker. Keepin a healthy, good runnin' stocker up and runnin properly is tough enough, and findin' affordable, quality parts ain't easy these days. A good runnin' pan is indeed a thing of beauty, but if runnin' with the jappers is where it's at, I think I would go a different route then with a tin top. I realize some guys purchased their pans already stroked, but experience has taught me it's much cheaper and easier to keep a stocker together and runnin' right, than it is to maintain a 115 incher with Arnold Palmer pushrods, Mickey Rooney valve covers, and pistons from a Speed-Aire air compressor, and God only knows what compression ratio. Thanks for listenin'. Feel free to retaliate....bosheff

Re: Stroker Panheads
4.5" stroke in my '61, .060 over, 8.5/1 compression, S&S 450S cam (236/238), CV carb, Mallory ignition, Velva Touch lifters...
makes for a very nice, strong bottom end motor. Have 60K on the bottom end, did rings/rebore at about 40K (broke a compression ring). Won't beat my son's CBR600RR, or keep up with my 125C.I. Vulcan, but I like it!

Re: Stroker Panheads
4 1/2" is just right!.
My only regret that S&S wheels are too light.
Next time, its Torquemonsters from T&O.

While video and sound quality can be a problem I'd still love to see and hear some of these strokers on a website like youtube.

Re: Stroker Panheads
Glad to see that you strokers are running disc brakes on those rides. Going mach 2 needs to have some rethinks on the other end of the spectrum also. Like stopping that beast! Stocker myself, but enjoy the thrills of others also.
Panheads forever, Tony.
