1965 Servi-Car engine specs

#1

Post by 1952EL »

Hello, I haven't messed with 45's in many years. My first bike was a 47 wl. I just acquired a 65 Servi-car basket case. I was hoping someone could help me out with somewhere to get engine specs. I looked in my Palmers book and Bruce doesn't give the info i am looking for. Specifically the piston bores from stock to .050 over. I have this for big twin but not for 45's.When I mic the cyl. in order to get new pistons and rings i need to know how far over i need to go. The current pistons are too loose. there are no stamps on the top telling me what the current bore is, Is there a manuel or other publication that would provide me this information that you might be aware of? Thanks for your help Jim e-mail is panhead30040@yahoo.com

Thank you that is the exact info i am looking for. what book are you refering to? I have a lot of manuals but they are for big twin. Is there one book that is better than others in giving the engine specs and pssibly a parts list by OEM numbers for rebuild? thanks again 52EL

hello,
got this info from a mail order catalog, V-twin in this case Surprised Surprised Surprised, old book from when they use to sell to everyone, like it still should be.
most parts books list the OEM sizes, then you can see what you got. some even list the OEM numbers.

52EL -

I build 45's more so than any other twin, these days. It is by my choosing, as I find them to be absolutely fun. As Mbskeam stated, you can easily go 0.070" over bore. However, make sure that you use torque plates when you get to around 0.050" or so. If 0.070" won't clean them up, they can be sleeved and begin life again as standard bores.

Welcome back to "Flatland" :)
My first HD was a '47 too. but a (poorly) chopped servi..
Congrats on your '65........ second year for HD E.start
You got PM mail..

Did ya get the '65 from a gal (Karen) in Calif. ???

Mbskeam-

That's correct bore, std piston is: 2.743"= .002 clearance
They still sell to GP, but under Zoom cycle label..
