Casting mark

This picture is not too clear but I am working on a deal for a bike and I was wondering if anyone has seen or knows what this casting mark means

Yep-
They are the 'oem' foundry casting markings,
& date codes (in the middle)
20- = 20th week of year.
9 = year of cylinder produced.

Example= Pan could be '49, or '59 (but differences narrow this down. (here's 2 quik diffs)
'49 had a 'plumbers intake nipple(stock)
'59 had 0-ring nipple

There are more differences, but you get the idea.

Same for flat, knuck, & shovel.

I don't know if there is an answer to this question but I found a bike, it has been setting for many years no title or paper work other than a bill of sale. I was told it was a panhead when I went to look the guy said I had to wait till next week because it is stuck in the corner with piles of stuff around it and the owner won't be back till the end of the week. I tried to talk the guy into letting me get closer to it but all I could get was the crappy picture I posted. The guy said it has been setting since the late 70's but from what I could see of the engine number it says 39ELXXXX So it's a knuck lower with pan upper and the front end is an inline springer so my question is what is it worth? would it be better to turn it back into a knuckle or leave it the way it is and ride it. I will get more information the end of next week but when I do see this guy I wanted to have a idea of what it's worth.

So I was doing some research and someone told me you can't put a panhead in a knuckle frame without modifying it if this is true then it can't be a knuckle frame
right?

Right, unless the frame was molested.
But U can put a knuck in a Pan frame.

Beg to differ............
Panhead motor WILL NOT fit in knuck frame without modifying the seatpost down tube.
Period.
Why? Front motor mount on knucklehead frame is 3/8" higher than a panhead frame, so when a panhead motor is set in a knucklehead frame, it throws the front of the motor up and also throws the rear cylinder head into the seat post down tube.

(Also notice the date on this thread---- but the information needs to be correct, no matter the date...!)

The MC is a hallmark.
It is Motor Castings Company.
You will find it on iron parts only, knuckle wheels, barrels, pan wheels.... never saw it on any cone shovel stuff...or many pan barrels either
Also still in business, making castings. The place is right in my neighborhood...
