Panhead sprays gas
Hi Folks I'm New here. I have a 1954 FLE I have had this bike for about 34yrs. There is one thing that it has done for as long as I can remember, and that is when starting I give it a few primer kicks (Full choke key off) and at the end of each kick I get a back spray of gas from the low speed needle and bowl vent. I actually had a backfire catch fire once. Other than this all is good. Anyone else have this problem?

Welcome!
and yes,... I've watched bikes burn,.. some worse than others.
Your machine's problems may be more than one.
Suspect number one for the cause of carb-backfire is Evil Manifold Leak .
A bubbletest of the manifold should always come first.

Next, anything so much as a gurgle much less a spray from a Linkert indicates severe flooding, presumeably from a float problem, as Steve points out.
If it only occurs upon start-up after sitting for a while, then suspect the petcock.
Good luck,
