Knob for gas shutoff/reserve valve on 1942 WLA

Post by mjmckee53 »

The original knob from my 1942 WLA vibrated loose and fell off the bike. Anyone know if and where I can get a replacement?

That knob is generic to all models and available from any supplier, 45 Resto, J&P, V-Twin, 45 parts depot, Old dude, etc.....

this isn't the original knurled cap & round head screw that came from the factory but it will work. You may have to try NOS Parts to find an original.

As Robbie said above the caps are common to all the twins after 1940. Part number is 62051-40 and the screw that holds it on the shut-off rod is a common #8-32 x 1/4" (H-D part number 2626). The porblem is that the vendors dont have just the knob, 45 Resto has a complete repair kit for $29 and 45 Parts Depot only has the extension knob I posted above. Tom has the original, in black, for $4 but he also has a $50 minimum parts order so you may have to add the shut-off cap to your parts list when you find out what other items you might need.

If the cap and screw fell off you might want to look a little closer and see what other items from the top of the fuel shut-off are missing, you may need the whole repair kit from 45 Resto.
