Fuel tank banjo waashers/gaskets
I'm ready to assemble my fuel shut off and only have one gasket/brass washer. Where can I get a replacement ? i read in the KB that Linkert bowl gaskets will work. Is this correct?
Thanks

62085-40
JP, Vtwin have them, there is also one on EBay.

The linkert seal is thicker, use 62085-40

Re: Fuel tank banjo waashers/gaskets
Most good hardware stores and auto parts stores have assortments of brass washers. Keep in mind that H-D did not spend a lot of time making specific bits when they could be had from normal sources.

Re: Fuel tank banjo waashers/gaskets
Just a head's up: if you use the Linkert bowl seals, you may have issues with spacing for the fuel rod, resulting in it not shutting off completely. Just depends on how close to perfect it fits, but the added thickness can make the rod run out of thread before it bottoms out.
Also, just as an FYI, I bought a set of PEEK seals for the fuel rod, money VERY well spent. They're reusable and don't even think about leaking. Ever.

But Kuda!
There is no bottom to the threads in the seat.
The knob at the top would have to bottom out upon the cap beneath it.
I have yet to encounter the problem with either Linkert crush washers, or PEEK cut for the same application;
Gas tanks must vary greatly in height.

Kuda,
Where did you get the PEEK seals?
I've been using viton o-rings; they work, but I'd prefer some thin PEEK seals.

Re: Fuel tank banjo waashers/gaskets
Carl Olsen charges $100 for:
Rod with "Peek" end
Seat assembly,
top seal, spring, washer, nut, cap, screw
and banjo washers.
Instead of the brass washers supplied I used
the copper crush washers per Cottens advise
and a light coating of Permatex hydraulic sealer on the washers.
No leaks and everything works like it should.
I'm happy.

Thanks Jim!
I hope I remember the next time I talk to Carl to ask: why no banjo seals?
(Meanwhile, I do not have to change my flat-rate for them!)

Re: Fuel tank banjo waashers/gaskets
You're of course correct: I should have said that when closing the fuel knob, the knob will tighten up before the seal fully seats. And yes, even using the HD rod alignment/adjustment tool per spec, it still wouldn't seal until I tweaked a few things, like the thickness of the washers, and tapped the upper threads a little further into the tank. Might have been the tank, might have been the reproduction rod, might have been the machining on the rod (for the PEEK tip). <shrug> Who knows, but the end result works.Cotten wrote:But Kuda!

As for the source, I got it here (this was back before I could find a closer source):
