I got a hydraulic oem brake drum that is mint except the lug threads a striped. Anything keep me from using a Heli-Coil or cert to repair them? Does anyone have a better idea? Thanks, Bob L

Re: Brake drum repair
H-D sold oversize lug bolts for that. But i see no reason that a well done heli-coil job won't work. The threads more often are ruined by running loose than overly tight!

Re: Brake drum repair
bob,
you can identify the factory oversized lugs by the groove machined on the outside. makes it easy not to mix them up.

Re: Brake drum repair
John!
I have a handfull with the machined groove that are not oversize.
My Palmer's isn't handy, but I believe those were pre-War productions.
Honestly, I have never encountered an over-sized lug.
I would opt for a thread insert repair.

Re: Brake drum repair
Check carefully that you do not have a crack from this lug hole. If it really is only the threads you should be fine repairing it.
