DOT 5 bad for teflon threadwrap

#1

Post by ArizonaMike »

Hi,

I heard that DOT 5 brake fluid will disintegrate Teflon thread wrap and that brakeline connections should be installed dry. Is this true? Anyone experience disintegration?

I haven't found any thing yet that will break down Teflon tape ,not even heat ,but I'm sure there is some thing that will . I always use TT. on all threaded fittings for fluids , even flared fitting threads . Some don't and thats OK too.

pghmike-

Dot 5 is fully synthetic & non-hydroscopic, & as such won't even harm finished paint.. I have never had a problem w/teflon & Dot 5 (I use the paste though. (& I only use Dot 5). Dot 3 will burn paint in short order.. (but we all know that) :)
