Brake shoes Front VS Rear

#1

Post by 51Hog »

I need some shoes for the front of the 51FL.
Can anyone tell me if the fronts and the backs are interchangeable?
I see two part numbers, and I see that some are cast, but can't determine if They can be swapped. There is a large price difference.

One side of the liner is usually closer to the shoe edge than the other. So, that makes them directional and not interchangeable.
Call kick-start (616) 245-8991 M-F (est).
Ordering brake shoes and having them not fit gets expensive, starting from the first bad set you get. When it comes to brake shoes don't play roulette.
imo, Call Kick-Start or another company, whichever dealer that has an employee within their warehouse, who actually owns one of our models that will answer the phone and knows bin stock like personal history.

The front shoes are thinner than the back shoes ,so not interchangeable....

Thanks guys. Guess I will try to find something to press the rivets with.
I have a set of liners that fit my front shoes. Is there an inexpensive punch that I can buy that I can roll the rivets with? Anyone know where to find it?

Vol. 2 lists it, but w/o the part number #2710, available at http://brattons.com/ Nice tool.
I find it amazing that almost, if not all, of Bratton's Taiwan parts fit '28-31 Ford - and from the late 70's on, almost, if not all, of the Brazilian made VW parts fit, without question.
So, why is it that the Taiwan aftermarket early OHV parts don't often don't fit? Is it that small parts batches (less than 100,000 parts) have high flaw rates, and because the demand flow is slow, the AM parts sit for yrs. in a bin and attrition is slow, in comparison to say, the high volume of VW parts sold in the early 70's to mid 80's? I think I answered my own question.

Thanks Mike,
I like the idea of positive control while squeezing the rivet.
