Front brake aluminum backing plate

#1

Post by Gotnoclass »

Hello loved ones,
Can anyone tell when the excess oil hole and the collar were removed? Also what year did the brake shifted to the right side?

I'm looking at a left side plate with no hole and no grease collar with a 49' raised cast number and trying to determine the correct vintage for this part.

Thanks!

When they went to the sealed ball bearings instead of the star hub, 1967. Some early '67s likely still have the features, but later do not.

Thanks Rubone, So safe to say it's correct for 67-68 only? 69 was right hand side brake?

I have one of those '67-'68 brake covers, NOS, still with it's (tattered) paper wrapping.
I'm tempted to drill the drain hole so it would pass as a '49-'66 cover, but it's hard to do that to an NOS part.
And it's really strange when a part is correct for only two years; on one hand, you'd think it would be rare and valuable. But on the other hand, the demand is only for those two year's models, so not near as much demand as '49-'66.
So it'll just sit in a box for awhile longer.
