Front disc brakes for 1965 FL

#1

Post by 65panhed »

Does anyone know of any companies that make a front disc brake system for a 1965 FL front end?

I thought RUBONE already cleared that up.Any SUPERGLIDE front-end will fit & you can run 2-discs if you want. Those frontemds are a dime a dozen & cheap. But don't be fooled by sportster front end IT LOOKS JUST LIKE IT!/EXCEPT they didn't come on shovels. The shortsters a different size.---Richie

As was stated, use a 73-82 or so, left leg, axle, and wheel with the banana caliper.
Or, a complete later FL fork assembly. I dont know how late you can go, as I've never used anything newer than 1980.
Or, some kind of disc brake conversion kit from GMA.

Performance Machine makes a set up for a Glide front end. I run them on one of my 60 pans. Duel 10" cast Iron disks. Stops on a dime. They weren't cheap 30 years ago. Can't imagine what they go for now. Bob L

I put PM brakes front and rear on my '77 shovel, did that 25 years ago. Cost around $700 in 1993 money. Spendy, but worth every penny.

I have FX forks and disc brakes and wide triple trees on it now, but the thinner tubes and the fact that I have my 65 front end jus layin here is the reason for the question. Thanx to all who replied and I guess I'll call PM today.

I can't see why they would stop producing that set up. It's just a simple bracket that excepts there two puck caliber. Not a whole lot to it. Bob L

Richie, look at it this way. They are producing braking systems. Their liability insurance is probably skyrocket high. Bob L

65panhed,
Check your p.m. box if you need a pair of used PM calipers like the ones on Luland's bike.
