Brake Pedal Pad
What's a good way to remove the rubber pad from the oval shaped bolt on brake pedal on my 57 FL? It seems to be bonded to the steel. (not the slip on style with the slot on the side). Is it easier to replace the pad and the metal backing plate? I see pads for sale, I have not seen the pedal. Didn't see one on the V-Twin or JP website.
Thanks

Any idea where to get a decent one?RUBONE wrote:Scrap,
They are made in one piece, the pad is non-removable.

Thanks, guess I will have to put some time in grinding off the existing pad.Limey_Dave wrote:These any good?

Re: Brake Pedal Pad
Sorry,I don't understand what you have to grind. This is a 45 pedal, but I think the toe part should look the same on yours, with the slot in.Scrap wrote:Thanks, guess I will have to put some time in grinding off the existing pad.Limey_Dave wrote:These any good?

The rubber pads are an accesory, that have studs on the back that go through the slot, and are fixed with a nut.

I see, I thought they were just the rubber pads, I see it's the complete pedal. They look fine, do they seem to be substantial?
Thanks

Re: Brake Pedal Pad
I don't understand "complete pedal",look on the back/under side of the toe end of your pedal,if there's a nut, undo it,and the old pad should pull off.
I got my pads years ago from a Dutch supplier, but the ones I linked to should be ok.
They say "FMC Approved" which means Kurt didn't have them made, but he's happy with the quality.

I love that old crusty HD stuff, send your cast offs to me I'll run them! At least make sure they end up in a milk crate somewhere so I have a chance at it

Re: Brake Pedal Pad
Folks,
The pads shown in the previous photos are of noticeably different construction than the flimsy productions I mentioned.

Re: Brake Pedal Pad
scrap, what you are calling the pedal is what Limey Dave is calling the pad-the metal thing with a bolt on one side, and a rubber surface on the other side.
What Limey Dave is calling the pedal is the big metal thing that pivots, which the above part bolts to.

Re: Brake Pedal Pad
Brake pedal pads used to be available from auto parts stores. I even used to buy Balkamp brand from NAPA. Same shape and mounting as H-D, sometimes with the same pattern , sometimes ribbed. To make the clutch rear pedal you just sawed off the end of the oval. H-D undoubtedly purchased them from a vendor, they did not make their own!
