Parts supplier for a rebuild?

#1

Post by ratlsnkshk »

Am doing a rebuild for the first time in 20 years, and have lost my contacts for various parts. Ordering them from a shop locally doesn't seem like it would be as quick or cheap as doing so from an internet supplier; but vintage parts like thrust washers, shims, gaskets, mechanical brake and glide parts, and specialized HD stuff like inner primary mounting hardware seems tough to find. Since the members here all deal with this stuff, there has to be a good source of parts that someone can lead me to. Where do you guys shop?

Hopefully you have a parts book.
Go to OldDude.com he has a lot of good quality parts and hardware.

I use a whole variety of places. I like to be able to search online and then click and purchase. And fast shipping. I hate waiting for my stuff.

http://www.tomsnosparts.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you can search by new or old part numbers. Fast shipping.

http://www.flatlandmotorcyclecompany.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; same as above.

I look for USA made parts like shims and thrust washers ect. by Eastern from Drag specialties. I use http://www.drvtwin.com/catalog.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Use Drag Specialties Old Book.

And last but not least. If you need to order V-twin stuff. I use Great Plains . Again fast shipping. I hate waiting. http://www.vtwincatalog.com/dl/index.php?page=Home" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hope this helps.

On the other hand, Folks,

If you are lucky enough to have one,
your local independent dealer may have to charge retail,
but he can source more directly, often at a better price, and usually be able to offer a wider variety than retail catalogs.
(Example: JAMES viton manifold O-rings are not offered by V-TWIN, which has the broadest vintage selection of all distributors.)

Your local independent will also help you avoid ordering mistakes, and greatly assist with returns when the inevitable wrong part is ordered, or it just sux.

Independents offer a valid service, and they have a right to their percentage. Web marketing has just about starved the independent storefront into extinction,.. gone the way of the "service station".

Disclaimer: Liberty does virtually no across-the-counter retail sales, and does not seek any at this time!

I grew up working in a Service Station. It bothered me then, as it does now, when they were referred to as a 'Gas Station'.
