And I thought that book was as sacred as the King James Version!

it might not be sacred but its almost as old, and a very useful book it is, it has helped a lot of lost souls.nmaineron wrote:And I thought that book was as sacred as the King James Version!

Re: "What Fits What" booklet critique
Interesting thread for sure. When I was still a young man the first version came out. I read through it once and shitcanned it. I worked in the field and called bullshit on too many topics to value it.To me it was obvious that it was done by someone without a clue. I got a copy in some stuff a few years ago and still laugh at it but kept that one as a relic from days past.
Kitabel may rub some folks wrong, but he tries to be as correct as he can be (interspersed with his own opinions!) and for someone like him to look at this work must make his sphincter ache!
Lots of the disasters we are faced with these days are directly contributable to works like this which have spawned urban legends and worse. Very much like Perry's work. Well meaning but misguided and driven by their own egos. As we all learn more and more (hopefully some of you are!) we try to achieve a higher level of understanding of what the early designers were after. It is an ongoing process and if it doesn't continue to be we all suffer.
So good on you Kitabel. I applaud your dedication to our hobby.
Just my ramble!

Re: "What Fits What" booklet critique
and everybody makes mistakes.....
form the review:
"1937-48, also used on the 1936 VL, with 9 bolts. There is no 10 bolt head. Only 1930-35 VL is 8 bolt."
the early VL's are all 7 bolt heads
and the list goes on, is it too late to fix it? yes, its too late!

Thanks, that's what comes of trusting memory rather than looking up the data.
Fixed it.

YEA the pocket version -what fits what! I got 1 to in the library---NOT all of it is a disaster! i guess out of the maybe 60 page version i got 3 pages were good! they did get the crankpin yrs. right -I have to admit it was a good read as to what not to do -but not all of it!-this would be more better suited for someone who knows what hes doin & just needs a close but not correct history version!-in mine they did get the 12 second sportster build right that it!. I also have something i have to find & give you guys the title its a magazine!--with way better info for pan & shovel genny models!---Richie

Re: "What Fits What" booklet critique
My copy went into the trash bin years ago.
But, I bach then when I first started with my WLA, I was very-very stupid, and just Had to Have a copy.
But, found other sites, that had good information, and help from members.
Did not find any reason to hang on to the booklet.
