Thread Sealer

#1

Post by steve_wood »

Anybody have any recommendations for thread sealer? Some of my oil fittings are leaking a bit. Not much, but I'm wondering if I can improve them.

I've tried the teflon paste and it seems to be hit-or-miss, plus I don't think it's very effective unless you get the threads perfectly clean.

I've also tried the teflon tape, which seems to work better, but I hate the thought of that tape coming loose and getting into the oil passages.

Any suggestions based on experience?

Steve!

I am currently using Gasgacinch for light-duty applications that may need to be cleaned easily,..

And Pliobond where solvent and heat resistance are critical.

They have the advantage of a vintage appearance, if nothing else.

Please remember, however, that threads can only be expected to seal when they are tapered pipe threads (npt).
All other designs depend upon either a compression taper, or a rubber grommet.
Any sealer is a band-aid.

Loctite 545 Thead sealant work great, I've used it on oil lines and brake line.
