remote starter

been having problems starting my 64 flh. I'm a long haul truck driver and the bike sits weeks on end in an unheated garage. When I get home I want to ride but it takes way too many kicks to get it lit off. Can't do that at my age. Been thinking about a remote starter built on the idea of rollers driven by an electric motor. Just put the bike in gear, start the rollers spinning and let the clutch out sort of like push starting. Anybody see a problem with starting it this way. When its hot one kick, ss super E, mallory ignition straight pipes with baffels. Had the bike along time so I know it's personality, check every oil change for manifold leaks so its not a set up problem, the problem is i'm getting to old to kick. Opinions appreciated. CC

Why not just point an electric heater at the motor for a few hours? It shouldnt be that difficult to start cold.

Have you considered a multi-weight oil?

up here in the frozen tundra i go with brute force when warming dead vehicles.

i use a 30,000 btu propane powered salamander heater. less than 80 bucks at the farm store.

for a car i point it at the radiator for the bike just a few feet back from the carb works. it has a fan so it actually blows hot air at the target.

usually ten min. is enough to get a dead cold bike to start like it is the middle of summer. works well for heating the shop too!

I think I would opt for the salamander although I have used heat lamps with success. But I had a buddy in Nevada years ago who had a roller starter for his drag bikes. It had a 12V starter for the track which was swapped out for an old washing machine motor for the shop. It was on a rocking frame which he would use to snug the roller up on the tire and get it going.

thanks for the input, I'll try heating it up befor I kick it over and see how it helps. Still thing I'm going to work on the remote start idea for when I can't kick anymore, unfortunately it's in the not too distant future. cc

I've been looking at the techcycle starter for a few years now but don't like all the extras, bigger battery, different oil tank ect. There is also a right hand starter that works off the kicker side being perfected. When the bike is hot no problem starting it so I just need something to help when it's cold. Thanks for the suggestion though. cc
