Oakland Roadster Show 1972
Found a couple of photos from the 1972 Oakland Roadster show - before it moved to LA.
Here is one of them. Can post the rest if this is the appropriate venue for them.
Mainly pans and shovels

My brother-in-law had entered his trike in quite a few of the shows. Let's see some more photos!

I used to live down the street from Alen's shop when it was in San Leandro.
Man how things have changed in the custom bike scene, and not all for the better.

Re: Oakland Roadster Show 1972
Those are what I think of when the name "chopper" is used. The last pic of the green chopper is bad. It always bugged me when 2 into 2 exhausts had one pipe slightly out of line with the other but that's a minor issue. And in todays prissy biker world the gap between the seat and frame might bother some. But the handlebars fill the gap for the perfect cool factor.

Re: Oakland Roadster Show 1972
Man, those bikes are totally early-70s! (The green one is a little over-the-top, however, in my opinion--- too much rake, the frame isn't even level) This is the style of bike that got my attention as a young man of 22 when I bought my own panhead chopper in 1974. Thanks for the pics and the trip back in time! Got more?

I live over the hill now in CV. I used to go into Arlen's shop; the old Honda MC Dealer and check out the bikes as a kid. Are you still local?

I live in Atlanta now, moved with my job. Born in Berkeley, lived in Castro Valley until I went to college.
Riding in north GA is as close to as good as it gets. 10 minutes from home and you are in the hills, kind of like living in the sierra foothills.

Have any pictures of the bike behind the pan in photo pan22.jpg? Looks like an Indian four chopper! ... Perrycraig60pan wrote:I used to live down the street from Alen's shop when it was in San Leandro.

Perry it is a scan of a slide. I may be able to blow it up a little more from the original but these were all I could find in that piles of slides.
Will look and see what else I have.

Re: Oakland Roadster Show 1972
What a blast from the past! Choppers done up the way i fell in love with 'em. I don't belive I'de ever seen any one of these bikes before, But its like pages right from my memory. Soo cool! If i see it right, the shovelhead chopper named "Hellbound" states on its placard; (4th line) "1960 Swingarm Frame". Thats highly altered huh? LOL! Love it! ----Bob----
