Removing JB Weld
I have a stock oil pump that the previous owner plugged the oil pressure switch hole with JB weld or a similar liquid metal. If I was to remove the pressure relief ball and spring, will this stuff crystalize or burn off with a propane torch? Not an ox-acetylene torch. I'm not sure why this was done, but do not want to risk damage to a pump that I know works. Thanks for any input!

Re: Removing JB Weld
Ripley,
Without knowing what is actually in the hole it would be hard to know exactly how to deal with it.
I think JB Weld is more of an epoxy than a liquid metal and I'm not sure you could burn it out of there. Have you condsidered drilling it out and retapping the hole? I would try that first.
If it is JB Weld I would contact them and see what they suggest for removing it

Re: Removing JB Weld
Propane torch makes the JB weld brittle and you can easily pick it out.Just apply the flame directly to the epoxy,it will turn "chalky" and come out pretty easy.

Thanks, I'll try to chemically dissolve it as I'm having a hard time getting out the check valve.

Re: Removing JB Weld
For what's worth - the paint stripper was a little slow as it would only dissolve to a certain depth - but it removed all the JB with no damage to other areas. Thanks to all.
