1958 Service Manual Question

#1

Post by dasweasel »

I have a 1958 FL that I am rebuilding. A friend of mine gave me the 1948 - 1957 Service Manual, and the next OEM Service Manual is for 1959 to 1969. Will the 1959 to 1969 give me any additional engine and trans info that the 1948 - 1957 Service Manual doesn't have? (And why did HD live a one year gap in their service manuals?)

Ed!

It's only a gap in reprints of the Service Manuals.

Everybody should have both,.. and Palmer's too.

58's didnt have the neutral switch indicator light on the instrument panels,on foot shift bikes,or the neutral switch on the trans.other than colors ( 2 tone fenders on 58's)and tank paint design there wasnt much obvious differences ,but if your wanting the complete details have someone scann that page of "How to restore your Harley Davidson" its by Palmer ..
I'm building a 59 and using the Harley 59 manual ,and Clymers 1948-1965 book and having no trouble .Clymer mentions it if the procedure is for certain years only ..I guess your not gouing for a total restoration ,or you would already have all these books and so on . Just use the harley 59 manual. Its a bit technical for my grade 8 so I have clymers to kinda clarify things in plain language.
