There are differing (heated) opinions about whether all, or any, '49 shrouds (headlight sheetmetal) were stainless or not.

Apparently some of the black ones were mild steel. The black slider covers as well.

The stainless ones may not have been production until '50. Many were chromed to order by the dealers, making it even more confusing when researching contemporary literature..

One thing is for certain, neither year had the "HydraGlide" script across the top.

If you find two, let me know, 'cos I need one also!

And while we are on the topic of '49 parts, I also need the one-year-only front brake cable adjustor.

And an elusive lower right sargeant's bar.

And a couple of "narrow" rose-pattern strap bands for the saddlebags.

And a stainless finned muffler cover would be delightfull.

Ain't '49's fun?!?

A magnet will stick to 400 series stainless steel.
