#12 & 1/4 inch bolts

#1

Post by Sidecar »

Im not a screw/bolt expert so I need to ask. Is the #12 bolt close to the same diameter of the 1/4 inch bolt ??
I'm not worried about the threads being different. I just need to know if they are close to the same diameter.
I'm going to swap out some chrome bolts and nuts for Stainless Steel and I can pick up #12's for free.

Thanx

#12 screws are comparable to a 3/16" bolt, and not properly interchangeable with 1/4".
Filister head #12-24 screws are desireable for other things on many vintage machines.
Note that most 1/4" bolt applications on H-D's were 24 tpi. Cross-tapping a hole to 20 or 28 usually ends up helicoil'd back to original, at an annoying expense!

Thanx Cotten

The 12-24 bolts/nuts are to replace 1/4 inch bolts/nuts in my windshield.

Looks like it'll work just fine.

Thanx again
