need a starting point to find problem...........59 FLH

Hi all: was riding yesterday... at 60 mph she was purring as she normally does.....heard a clank from the bottom end and she shut down.......kicked her through to make sure she wasn't locked up.....cut the switch back on, kicked and she fired back up.......idles fine but , when i give her throttle she pops out of the front cylinder with a big cloud of black smoke.............any help would greatly appreciated.................Ed

Could it be a loose valve seat? if it just does it after she warms up that could be it.....

Being ultra conservative, I would pull the front head and have an expert look at it. You might end up with a catastrophic failure if you keep running it....

shes due for a top end any how....so sound like that's what ill do......didn't think it was a simple fix like points...... and no way I'm running her until i get the cause nailed down......

Will do.......going to be 98 in the shade today...so it will be a night time project......I'm 70 over on the top end,got a bud that's going to hook me up with a standard set of jugs and piston for $300....i will let you guys know what that front head looks like.......thanks for the info...........Ed
