VERY nice fourthgear, well done!

I've got the same Craftsman bike lift. I had the '49 FL on it last night to adjust the chains. I don't know if anyone else has the same problem but I can't roll it under the stock '49, its too high. I had to take the rubber pads off and I still have to roll both wheels up on 2x4 blocks to slide it under the frame and skid plate with the bike sitting straight up.

Anyway, I love the way you did the new bike, very clean and functional, not overdone. If it rides as good as it looks you'll have it all.

John, 5.00 x 16 full size (I think). Now that you mention it I've never actually measured the mounted outside diameter.

The red '47 has a set of original Goodyear Super Eagles on it, I'll measure both of them in the morning and post the results. Could explain the 5% speedo error. hmmmm

I've also got an Avon like you run mounted on a star-hub, I'll measure that one too.

the diference might just lie in the lifts, what does yours measure fully collapsed? might be easier than running a tape around your tires.

i can measure mine.

Hi there
I'm at the point of buying a bikelift like the one Fourthgear is using. Any experience with those kind of lifts ? Is it easy working at it or would it be wiser to buy a lift-table like Flatheadsix is using ?
Thanks

i like my little lift, i have a very small shop and a full size one would take up too much room.

the only thing to keep in mind is if you need to remove a wheel or the front end you definately want to use a jack stand or some blocking under the other end!

Sears makes a low profile lift that fits under my 56 FLH just fine. But, it is aluminum and a bit pricey. Their less expensive one would not fit, though.

These lifts can be installed by one person.
http://www.bestwayhydraulics.com/index2.html
Holds about 6 gallons of 30 wt. Instructions included (modified by Bestway after Vol. 1 was released).
It's not as extravagant as it seems. You can keep the machine 12" off the ground and covered. You need a block & tackle hanging from a supported rafter in your shop/garage, a ranch-quality post hole digger, a 1/2 concrete bit and the knowledge that you have no water pipes or a sewer line directly below your location. Rocky ground would be a problem too. You'll need to dig a post hole 53" deep, and install the empty cannister twice for base-bolt location.
