removing chrome

any one ever tried to remove chrome from parts in a blast cabinet , I heard it would work if the right media was used.

I don't know about using a blast cabinet, but there are chemical kits available for stripping chrome. Check out www.frost.co.uk
Frost is a British company, good stuff, but pricey. No doubt there will be a similar product in your area, maybe at a lower price.

I believe the bag said Black Cat. The media used was welding slag. If you buy a carbide tipped nozzel for you sandblasting cabinet, it works very well for removing Chrome. Other nozzels will wear out very quickly with this media. The chrome peals off in big strips.

It may have been Black Diamond i used several years ago. I found this that looks similar to what I used. It is coal slag.

They also carry the tungsten carbide nozzels $$$$ but they last a very long time.

Shacker:- Have you also checked on removing the chrome by reversing the electro plating proccess. You only need a battery charger or battery only, a pail or some kinda container of water, acid and like a copper pipe to fransfer it to...Joe

Hydrocloric acid disolves chrome, under it should be nickel, you can stip that with nitric acid, under that there may be copper, don't know how to get that off
