65 FL
sat for an unknown spell prior to me getting it
does not appear to have been messed with much but I am not an expert
started and ran poorly but well enough to get it up the driveway
drained gas
douched linkert carb with spray cleaner
pulled plugs and found one reason it ran like poop
cleaned and regapped plugs .028
starts and runs better
throttle is unresponsive (it thinks about what you want to do before it moves)
so here it sits
I am reluctant to do harm but really want a reliable ride when I am done
books are on the way
where do I start ?
where to start

Re: where to start
Murray!
I suggest removing and replacing the intake manifold assembly,
preferably with modern viton O-rings, and a thorough bubble-test.
While the carb and manifold are off, you should probably grind their flanges back to "flat".
Good luck!

Cotten,
Where does one purchase parts reliably for one of these, especially the propper viton 0-rings.

Re: where to start
Just one comment, and sorry if I'm telling you something you already know, but do stuff one thing at a time i.e. check the timing - test fire the engine. Then move on to the next step (i.e. Adjust valve lash, carb tune-up, etc) then test fire again.
Let us know how it goes.

Hopefully, you have a local independent retailer in your neighborhood.
Most dealers will deal direct with James, as many distributors have yet to pick up the product.
You are on your own with mailorder and web suppliers!

Re: where to start
Like the other members said, start with the basics, ignition, valve adjustment, carb adjustment, check for intake leaks, fresh fuel, compression....spark , fuel, compression. You should find everything in the data base on this site. Good luck, Adam
